We were approached by the client late in 2019 to develop and finalise an original brief and design by Acre. Much of the intent and plant palette was retained but flexibility in the use of space was now important due to the arrival of a young child! A fixed and off form concrete table and benching was removed to allow casual arrangement of loose furniture and the benching was adjusted to be clad in custom herringbone bluestone pieces as the feature of the space which is fully visible from the home thanks to full height and width glass doors. Mirrors affixed to the rear masonry walling create the impression of additional depth and room. In practical terms, drainage considerations for the space were key and solved with the use of hidden sump pits and clumping Bamboo was used for its ability to grow in narrow spaces and achieve privacy from a significant building close to the rear fence.
